Why an offline AI is a different kind of private

Most "private" AI is a promise. You're told your data won't be used, won't be trained on, won't be logged. Maybe that's true today. But the words you typed still left your machine, crossed the public internet, and landed on a company's server. The privacy is a policy — and policies change, get breached, or get quietly rewritten in a terms-of-service update you'll never read.

An offline AI changes the shape of the guarantee. When the model runs on your own computer, your question never travels anywhere. There's no server to log it, no network request to intercept, no company to trust. Turn off your internet and it works exactly the same — because the internet was never part of the equation.

That's the difference between trusting privacy and verifying it. You can pull the ethernet cable and watch the thing keep answering. No setting, no account, no fine print.

This matters most when it matters most: when the grid is down, when you're somewhere without signal, or when the subject of your question is something you'd never want sitting in a datacenter with your name attached.
